Margarita Shalomentseva Valerianovna, known to her friends as Rita, is a 73-year old Russian woman who moved to Berlin after the war when her husband settled in for a post in the Soviet occupation force. Her husband died years ago and her son died before her time in an accident, which crippled her emotionally and inspired religious fervour.

While she lived in East Berlin for most of her life, she recently moved to an elderly home in West Berlin.

The blood-starved vampire Elisabeth-Maria Holstein took too much blood from her while she was praying in the Maria-Schutz-Kirche, causing her to faint. She was admitted to hospital due to blood loss and believes that her life was saved by Elisabeth-Maria.
