•• Exorcism

You gain the ability to break the hold that a supernatural evil has over a host. For example, this power can be used to force a Wraith to release its hold on a mortal it is possessing, to end the effect of Dominate 5 or to control the Beast when it has taken hold of a Kindred.

To use this power, you must establish contact with the host, that is, you and the host must be presently aware of one another. The easiest way to do this is by making physical contact with them, but it is also possible to lock eyes, similar to the way Dominate works.

Once contact is established, a battle of wills is started between the possessing entity and yourself. While it is ongoing, you are limited to praying and speaking to the subject, and then only in line with the exoricism, for example praying for the evil to leave or encouraging the host to retake control. The possessing entity is not limited in this manner and can scream, curse or try to flee, but cannot attack you directly while the battle of wills is ongoing (but see below).

Each round, you roll True Faith plus Empathy against the Willpower of the subject in an extended roll. You need to gather 6 successes minus the Self-Control of the host. If the host uses Instinct instead of Self-Control, or if the host is willingly being possessed, you need to gather the full 6 successes.

If you fail a roll during your attempt, your progress is reset to zero. If you fail while you had not made any progress (either because you just started or because you were set back to zero earlier), the subject is allowed to attack you directly during the next round. If you botch on the check, you fully fail to break the hold of the supernatural entity and may not attempt again during the scene.

Once you gather the necessary number of successes, the hold of the supernatural entity is broken. A vampire in Frenzy or Rotschrek will be pulled out of this state, the discipline possessing a host will end, the Wraith will be expelled from its host, etc. The possessing entity cannot regain control of their former host for the duration of the scene and any effects that normally result from being forcibly expelled take effect as well. The host is free to act as they would normally do once more.

You cannot use this power on yourself. However, your faith does offer you some resistance to being controlled. When you are not in control of your own actions, such as being dominated or in a state of Frenzy, if you are forced to take an action that goes directly against the tenants of your faith, you may make a Willpower check (standard DC). If you succeed, you do not complete the action. Note that this does not free you from whatever effect is taking place, it merely saves you from breaking the tenets of your faith.
