Elisabeth-Maria's Orthodox Faith

This page describes some expected behaviours and requirements of Elisabeth-Maria in relation to her faith.

Requirements

Requirements only apply if it is morally and physically possible to meet them. For example, if Elisabeth-Maria is in torpor due to being mauled by a grizzly bear, she would not be in breach of her daily prayer requirements if she does not pray while unconscious. Likewise, if someone threatens to murder her if she doesn't eat during a fasting period, she would not be in breach to do so.

Daily Prayers

Elisabeth-Maria makes prayers at least once a day and usually every evening after bed and morning before going to sleep. This is in addition to any prayers for specific purposes (praying for someone, visits to church).

To save table time, Daily Prayers are included in the time to prepare for / get out of bed.

Skipping prayers for a day without cause is a Minor Breach (applies to the next day).

Communion / Unction

As one of the faithful, it is expected Elisabeth-Maria participates in the liturgy and receives communion every Sunday as well as during the 12 major feast days in the Orthodox Calendar. Holy Unction is to be received during the Holy Week (after Orthodox Easter).

On Sundays and any major feast days that do not fall on a Sunday (several always do), Elisabeth-Maria will need to use at least part of the day to visit Church. This usually does not need to be played out.

Skipping a major feast day, or two Sundays in a row, without good cause is a Minor Breach (applies to the next day).

Consequences

Not sticking to the tenets of the faith may have consequences for True Faith.

Minor Breach

A Minor Breach occurs when a minor recurring tenet of the faith is not met. True Faith powers are disabled for a day, and it is presumed the tenet will be followed again from then on. If three Minor Breaches occur within a three day period, it becomes a Breach.

Breach

A Breach occurs when the tenets of the faith are not followed. True Faith powers are disabled indefinitely until penance is made and absolution has been granted by a priest of the faith.

Major Breach

A Major Breach goes directly against the tenets of the faith. One point of True Faith is lost. True Faith powers are disabled indefinitely until suitable, significant penance is made and absolution has been granted by a priest of the faith.

XP is not refunded, but if absolution has been granted and a new Divine Mission is completed, the point can be bought again at no XP cost.

Heresy

A heretical act goes directly against God. All points of True Faith, and the True Believer merit are lost.

XP is not refunded, but if absolution is ever granted (unlikely), a new Divine Mission can be used to regain the True Believer merit and later the points in True Faith can be bought again.
