Fans are often used by ladies at court to keep cool or communicate in secret.
A beautifully crafted fan, used to cool oneself or communicate.
Masterwork fans are identical to regular fans, but are decorated with elaborately drawn landscapes, scenes or images. Such fans are not sold for profit, but rather are made by artists employed by the nobility. Such artists are highly sought after and it is quite a prestigious position.
An employed artist will make fans for each occasion (which each cost 325 gp to make) for their patron. At these occasions, the fan provides a bonus to any social interaction undertaken by the patron in situations where this would be applicable (DM's discretion). The height of the bonus depends on the skill of the artist and the greater the artist, the higher the bonus.

Warfans are used as concealed weapons by noble women and sometimes men.
This weapon appears to the untrained eye as nothing more than a beautifully crafted fan. In fact, the vanes of the fan are crafted from steel, and the tips are needle-sharp. When first brought into melee, the wielder may attempt a Bluff check against an opponent’s Sense Motive check. If the wielder wins the contest, he adds a +4 bonus to the attack roll for his first round’s attack(s).
A masterwork warfan provides a bonus to combat, not a bonus to diplomacy as a masterwork fan. However, a warfan can be made masterwork as a regular fan as well for the same additional cost.
