Noh Masks

Noh Masks are special masks made of Mithral Porcelain.

Creating the masks requires three steps - an artist must mould the mask into shape from a clay made of Advanced Cermet and porcelain materials, a ritual must be performed related to one of the five traditional elements (unrelated to the actual elements) and a connection must be made with a supernatural entity from the Spirit World. The powers of the mask depend on the element chosen and the nature of the connection with the spirit world.

Mithral Porcelain

Using secret cermet creation techniques from Clairmont combined with the secret of making Porcelain from Heisei allows for the creation of a unique material called Mithral Porcelain. After mixing Advanced Cermet with porcelain materials, a rough clay is created which can be moulded into shape. It is then baked for one week at extreme temperatures to harden the material.

The material properties of Mithral Porcelain vary depending upon the individual combination of materials and it is practically impossible to mass produce, both due to the difficulty of the work and magic involved and due to the extreme cost.

As Mithral Porcelain is especially well suited to receive Gestalt enhancements, it can be used to create unique Gestalt items, though each item of this nature requires unique special components and enchantments.

The Masks

Masks always have a similar set of basic effects. Each masks grants a +2 competence bonus on a single skill to the wearer. The exact skill varies by mask, but it is always one skill and always a +2 competence bonus.

Depending on the element chosen when creating the mask, one of five powers is granted additionally:

  • Wood: The wearer can cast Plant Growth once per day at caster level 8.
  • Fire: The wearer can breathe fire as if using Burning Hands at caster level 5.
  • Earth: The wearer can cast Soften Earth and Stone at caster level 3 three times per day.
  • Metal: The wearer can manifest a shard of metal at will, which they can send towards a target with a ranged touch attack, dealing 5d6 damage if it hits. The maximum range is 35 ft, and this counts as a Ray attack.
  • Water: The wearer can breathe underwater and becomes immune to gas attacks, but they cannot speak while wearing the mask.

Additionally, they grant at least one additional effects specific to each mask.
