Fledgelings are kindred who have been recently turned, and who are still learning the basics of what it means to be a kindred. They need to learn how to hunt, how to feed, how to maintain the masquerade as well as the -why- of these methods so they are capable of dealing with any problems that result.
Fledgelings are the sole responsibility of their Sire (and by extension their Sire's nest), have no status of their own and are not considered part of kindred society yet. As a matter of respect to their Sire, most kindred will redirect any attempts made by fledgelings at socializing with them back to their Sire. They are for most intents and purposes considered children and have no standing in society whatsoever.
Once a Sire considers their Fledgeling to have been properly trained and capable of handling themselves, they will allow them to join Kindred society. The exact details of this vary by Clan. Training usually takes about a year, though some Sires are less picky and may get it done quicker, while others are excessively careful and may keep their wards as Fledgelings for a much longer time.
