There is a vast chasm between the identity of Bastian Proll as he is perceived by his inferiors and Bastian Proll as he sees himself. His inferiors see him as a ruthless monster, a pitiless oppressor who lacks the ability to feel compassion or empathy for others. He sees himself as an anarch off the old block, doing what he wants when he wants it, defending the Freedom that should belong to all Kindred as best he can.

After being embraced by his “useless” Malkavian Sire, Bastian used his newfound strength for his own benefit. He made a strategic pact with the Fourth Reich in the 1970s to protect his interests in the hard scrabble districts of the north. He is happy to espouse the ideology of the Fourth Reich to fuel recruitment to his syndicate of ghouls and unknowing mortals, fighting out turf wars against the mortal-led gangs in the north.

His business of theft, robbery, extortion and blood-slavery is often accomplished by intimidating mortals with displays of gruesome violence, often going after women and children to intimidate their men. It is that ruthlessness which is simultaneously his weakness. While he can intimidate and blood-bond some, he gives no thought to rewarding his followers and often kills or tortures them for perceived incompetence. Invariably they then seek refuge with the other gangs for protection, perpetuating the conflict.

He has an ongoing rivalry with Odin, who is the stronger of the two, yet who still lacks his resources. It is also thought that other Kindred (it is not known whom) have been undermining his efforts in the north whenever they have threatened to get too successful. Hermann Die Dünne has often accused Erika Geiger and even Dieter Kotlar of such sabotage, but who can believe the divisive ramblings of that crazy Kindred?
